Pre Conference Workshops

InSight’s Pre Conference Workshops are designed to complement the InSight 2010 Annual Conference. These optional trainings take place Tuesday, September 14, 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm for the half-day sessions and 8:30 – 4:30 for the full-day sessions.

The [InSight Annual Conference] contained a wealth of information for me. Not only in new products, but also in best practices on the products we already use and networking with similar organizations.

105: A Beginner’s Guide to Pathways Materials Management Data
SIG: Pathways Materials Management
* Please note this session will take place from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

This session would cover the very basics of what the Pathways Materials Management data is all about—how to connect to the database outside of the application, basic queries, sample scripts and report troubleshooting. Time or class knowledge permitting, we will also cover the Pathways Materials Management ERD, code values used in Pathways Materials Management tables, and accessing the Pathways Materials Management data via MS Access.

Session will include a set of files for the attendees that cover the information shown in class, as well as some examples they can take back and use right away at their own facilities.

103: Star Vista - QRE/ODBC/Download Agent
SIG: STAR MIS

This session will give you a more in-depth view of QRE, ODBC/JDBC and Download Agent functions and benefits. We will view the configuration of the server that allows the ODBC/JDBC connectivity. We will explore functions such as automated assistance while typing, drag/drop or copying from the data dictionary, color-coded syntax editor, how to automate your PC downloads using Image Inspector and Download Agent, and much more. We will also cover the ODBC and JDBC drivers and how you can use ODBC features which will let you use Windows applications directly to access your data.

106: Pathways Materials Management for the Database Administrator/Analyst
SIG: Pathways Materials Management

This session will cover the administrative side of the PMM databases using SSMS: finding blocks and locks; maintaining scheduled tasks; database configuration; viewing the ERD and querying; including more complicated joins and administrative reporting; adding and changing Pathways Reports; Crystal tips and tricks.

Session will include a set of files for the attendees that cover the information shown in class, as well as some examples they can take back and use right away at their own facilities.

104: Want to Improve Implementation Success AND Patient Safety?
SIGs: ALL

A root-cause of patient safety accidents and near misses is the distraction, inattention, and cognitive strain resulting from change fatigue. More specifically, healthcare organizations need to look at the impact of “uncontrolled change” on units and departments that provide direct and indirect patient care.

At this point your natural response is “We don't have uncontrolled change. We do a good job of managing our McKesson project. Unfortunately your project competes with materials and equipment, JCAHO and other regulatory driven changes, competency and skills training, implementation of new policies/procedures, and facility changes. In most cases these changes are managed well as projects within their domains. The patient safety risk increases and the probability of success of your project decreases from the perspective of the “sharp end” caregiver who rightfully asks: “Who is managing the simultaneous changes across all those domains?"

This workshop provides a simple yet effective solution to convert the current “avalanche” of change into a more proactive “snowfall” that will improve patient safety and increase the probability of success of your implementation.

101: Building Horizon Ambulatory Care Templates and Forms: Utilizing Templates to Drive Data Capture and Tips & Tricks for Creating Forms
SIG: Horizon Ambulatory Care

We all know that in Horizon Ambulatory Care (HAC), templates are used to guide clinicians in documentation of their office encounter. Forms serve as an alternative mechanism in HAC for collecting and documenting information during an office encounter. McKesson currently delivers over 120 templates and 40 forms with HAC. With the ability to customize existing and build new ones, templates and forms can serve as key tools to meet standard and unique workflow needs within the electronic medical record (EMR). However, sometimes these tools can seem intimidating to build, especially forms, so they may be under utilized.
This 4-hour course will be an interactive session with McKesson and our installed customer base to share ideas of utilizing templates and forms in HAC.
