Volunteer Task Force Update

The InSight Volunteer Task Force was created in 2005 as a focus group intended to construct a plan for improving InSight volunteerism. Their mission is to audit the existing volunteer structure and recommend improvements for volunteer recruitment, on-boarding, retention, and rewards. In addition, the committee is charged with establishing a policy of review for each of the three main volunteer areas: Board of Directors, Standing Committees, Councils and SIGs.

The task force members are John Meharg (Chair), Gail Boerner, Nancy Goessler, Tammy Inglis-Drew, Pam Rodriguez, Pat Sciarini, and Megan Price (Staff). The task force convenes via conference call on the second Tuesday of every month, which began in August 2005.

The task force is focused on five main areas of volunteer improvement:

  • volunteer structure
  • volunteer recruitment
  • volunteer on-boarding
  • volunteer incentives and rewards
  • volunteer structure

The task force first decided on a volunteer structural change which will go to the Board for review in January. The task force is proposing to have an owner of education and an owner of enhancements per SIG, instead of having a SIG Chair, assisted by the vice chair, who is responsible for both education and enhancement activities. The proposed volunteer titles are: SIG Chair of Education and the SIG Chair of Enhancements.

Next the task force broke into small subcommittees to brainstorm ways in which volunteer recruitment, on-boarding, and incentives/rewards could be improved. The task force is discussing the ideas presented by the subcommittees and developing a report, listing the deliverables they intend to implement in 2006. This will be presented to the Board at the January Board meeting.
