Annual Conference

The 2005 InSight Annual Conference took place September 22-24 at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC). Nearly 2,500 registrants took advantage of three days of education, product demonstrations and networking.

Carolyn Crook, PhD., InSight VP Education (Corporate Compliance Officer, Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville, AR) served as Chairperson of the Conference Planning Committee (CPC). InSight applauds her for her leadership of this group, which included staff, McKesson liaisons, and InSight volunteers. Under Dr. Crook's leadership, the event operated smoothly and within budget.

On Wednesday, 09.21.05, McKesson's President, Pam Pure, hosted a roundtable discussion at McKesson's Alpharetta Headquarters for nearly 50 CIOs whose facilities are represented by InSight membership. Also on Wednesday, conference registrants were invited to participate in a free tour of McKesson's Alpharetta Headquarters and an Atlanta-area McKesson distribution facility. InSight recognizes the investment McKesson made in this area, and further, the value to participants.

General Session Highlights

Cyndi Jones, InSight President (CIO, St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network, Bethlehem, PA), opened the general session with a speech recognizing the value InSight brings to all members and their facilities. Ms. Jones outlined InSight's three-year Strategic Plan and the plans to further improve the current InSight Enhancements process. She was followed by keynote presenter, Pam Pure, President, McKesson Provider Technologies, who provided the keynote presentation. Ms. Pure's thought-provoking presentation outlined where McKesson sees healthcare IT headed, and how the company is positioned to meet facility and patient needs.

Also in the general session, InSight awarded its prestigious "Tom Utley Outstanding Service Award" to Nancy Dean, Manager, Clinical Information System Development for St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. Thank you to Ms. Utley for making time to present this award on behalf of InSight. The award honors the efforts of Ms. Utley's late husband, Tom, who was an early leader in the formation of InSight.

Education & Program Highlights

New in 2005 was the addition of high-speed internet connection in every education room and badge scanners for attendance tracking. Quick education program metrics include:

  • Total number of sessions: 357
  • Percentage of sessions that were customer-led: 63%
  • Percentage of sessions given an overall ranking of 3.5 or high on a 4.0 scale: 55%
  • Number of customer/user led presentations by speakers who are members of McKesson award winning facilities: 54

Product Solution Center (PSC) Highlights

Conference registrants were able to meet both McKesson product management and representatives from complimentary solution providers in the 2005 PSC. InSight works diligently to ensure the size of the PSC is large enough to be of value to attendees, but small enough to foster quality customer engagement and product demonstrations. Quick facts of the PSC are:

  • Total square feet of exhibit space: 5,300
  • Total number of exhibiting companies: 46
  • Hours of operation: 20+

Networking Highlights

Three days of intense learning and information exchange must be balanced with time for fun and socializing. InSight delivered a perfect balance with the Friday evening networking receptions, followed by the main-event "Margarita-ville" party! InSight proudly recognizes McKesson as a contributing sponsor of both these events. In the networking receptions, attendees could meet in specially-designated spaces related to InSight's Council structure (including the International Council). Networking is loosely facilitated among attendees while cocktails and appetizers were served.

The "Margarita-ville" party was spectacular! The Marriott Grand Ballroom was transformed to a tropical island dance venue...complete with live parrots, palm trees, table decorations, and a 10-piece band playing island music. Food was served in ample portions, drinks flowed quickly, and dancing lasted into early morning.
