Greetings,
As we reflect on 2007, we should all in different
ways see success in our own professional growth, amongst our teams,
and ultimately within our facilities and hospitals. Looking to 2008,
it’s important we take key learnings and apply them to future
strategies. Equally as important, it’s critical we have the tools,
resources and knowledge base in place to position us for growth and
success in the coming year.
It’s clear there’s a lot happening with InSight,
and for those who already see first-hand where we as a community
provide value to one another, it’s time we secure our memberships
for 2008.
As you consider membership renewal, I’d like to
highlight just a couple of the new programs and exciting
developments in store for InSight members in 2008.
In addition to our flagship annual conference,
InSight will be putting focus on creating year-round membership
value that facilitates access to our greatest asset – one another.

The programs we’re building
and enhancing will afford us more online collaboration, additional
business-relevant online resources, and virtual learning
opportunities.
What’s the engine that will drive these
improvements?
In January 2008, InSight will launch its new and
improved Web site. Members of the community will enjoy a
restructured Strategic Enhancement Process, updated discussion
forums and improvements to functionality, navigation and usability.
Great efforts are being made so we all can make optimal use of the
InSight Web site. I thank the InSight Web site Committee for all of
their efforts in making this happen.

1. Can you explain what volunteering with
(or being a member of) InSight has done for you personally?
If you think about volunteers in general, they are
people who give and share. I remember what it was like to be a new
customer of McKesson and come to my first InSight Annual Conference.
The experience can be intimidating. If you never share your
knowledge, you cannot be a leader. At my hospital, I have the
responsibility of leading others so I am always teaching and sharing
experiences with them. It gives me great pleasure to see others who
are able to tackle a problem with success or to be able to explore
other avenues that bring value to their organization and know that I
may have provided a light in that path.
2. Can you explain how volunteering with
(or being a member of) InSight has helped your organization?
When I first joined InSight I was the only one in my
organization that attended. I believe that my participation as a
volunteer and member allows me to stay knowledgeable about the
McKesson products that my department uses, and promotes the use of,
inside our organization. Our hospital now sends multiple staff
members who are involved with McKesson products. Hospitals spend a
great deal of money on these systems… it is an investment that
requires continuous education in order to extract the most benefit.
The products are evolving and if you aren’t staying on top of this
information, you and your organization lose a great deal of
opportunities to deliver improved efficiencies and better customer
service. By being involved with InSight, you are committed to being
better-than-average user of McKesson products.
3. Can you provide an example of how
InSight has brought you and/or your company measurable value?
McKesson knows that I am not afraid of speaking up but
I have always attempted to think about how the products can bring
better value to all hospitals not just to my own. If I asked for an
enhancement I offered detailed business reasons why it should be
done. By being involved in InSight you cannot be focused on your own
hospital, it is a user group. You are interacting with your peers
and therefore you are learning from others to help you understand
the needs of other organizations and not just your own. This enables
you to provide McKesson suggestions and information that they are
able to put on the table and come to the conclusion that if they
proceed with the enhancement or change that they are offering a
solution to all their customers and not a select few. Some of my own
enhancement requests have come to be realized in the products that
we use and InSight's involvement is one avenue to ensure your voice
is heard and that what you’re asking for is ag! reed upon by other
users.
4. What excites you most about the
future of InSight? InSight has many opportunities to
bring more value to its customers and as a volunteer this year, I
hope we are able to exceed the expectations of the organizations.
Our SIG is excited about sharing information with other SIGs. The
integration between products is becoming common in the hospitals,
therefore we must stretch our own knowledge into other products and
with users from other departments. It will help develop better
communication and relationships inside of our own
hospitals.

Within the next few weeks, InSight will welcome
SUMMIT as a new SIG to the InSight community. This addition of
SUMMIT will strengthen the InSight community.
A larger community creates a larger network
to communicate and share knowledge which will benefit our individual
organizations as well as the industry. Watch for more details
regarding this new SIG moving forward.

This is a reminder that although there is no formal
December discussion period for CSEs, they are still being accepted
for submission during the reconstruction of the Web site and will be
included for discussion in the first round of the new 2008
Enhancement Process.
