From the President |
|
In
anticipation of the InSight 2008 Annual Conference, I’m sure we’re all
undergoing the usual preparation to ready ourselves for this once a
year event. As we get budgets approved and solidify reservations,
let’s not forget to acknowledge those that continue to make
significant contributions that help shape and grow this
organization.
InSight bestows two awards each year to deserving
members at the InSight Annual Conference: the Tom Utley and Member
Achievement awards. Each award is given in recognition of a member
who has demonstrated outstanding service to both sustain and improve
the member experience at InSight. |
|
The Tom Utley award recognizes the best of our many
volunteers who contribute their time and talents to make InSight the
premier user group for McKesson customers.
Additionally, the Member Achievement award recognizes the noteworthy
accomplishments of a member on behalf of the user community,
including participation in InSight SIGs, Discussion Forums, the
Enhancement Process and a host of other member offerings.
As with any volunteer award, the community needs to
be involved. That’s where we as members come in.

V3 Partner - Dell: GREENING THE DATA
CENTER: Best Practices for Unlocking Your Hidden Data
Center |
|
Dr. Albert Esser, vice president of data center
infrastructure at Dell, shares his perspective on the momentum that
is building behind green data center design. Plus: How IT
organizations can put unused capacity to work and leverage tactics
for fast, flexible growth that helps maximize the bottom
line.
Get ready for a major shift in the way data centers
operate. To help meet growing performance demands, there is a move
toward high-density equipment such as blade servers. However, most
data centers do not have the power or cooling capacity to support
this change. In addition, growing awareness about the environmental
impact of excessive energy usage is driving business leaders to
explore ways to make IT infrastructure more efficient than they are
now.
There's a common misconception that going green
means buying lots of new, more energy-efficient equipment.
The key thing for CIOs to remember is that they can
make their company's IT greener on their own schedule and with their
own IT people. In fact, in many cases, the easiest way to be more
environmentally friendly is to consolidate the infrastructure onto
fewer servers. Most data centers are not even near capacity and
there is an enormous potential savings there - a whole "hidden data
center."
Dr. Esser explores how efficient server utilization
helps save energy, the role that virtualization can play in helping
make data centers greener, the effect that green initiatives have on
data center performance, how cooling impacts efficiency and Dell's
flexible approach to creating an environmentally friendly
infrastructure.

RelayHealth, Microsoft
HealthVault Join Forces for Connectivity |
|
Microsoft HealthVault and RelayHealth, McKesson's
connectivity business, have formed a strategic collaboration.
Microsoft HealthVault is recommending that the RelayHealth®
connectivity platform be used by health systems and physicians who
want to enable the physician-patient online experience and
ultimately connect that interaction to HealthVault for patient
storage of their personal health information.
HealthVault is
a free Web-based platform designed by Microsoft to put people in
control of their health data, helping them to collect, store and
share health information with family members and participating
healthcare providers. And, it provides people with a choice of
third-party applications and devices to help them manage things such
as fitness, diet and health.
Microsoft HealthVault recognized RelayHealth's
proven ability to provide the means for hospitals, physicians and
other affiliated providers to connect with patients and insurers,
and collaborate with each other, in a safe and secure mode.
RelayHealth's secure online messaging includes webVisit®
consultations, prescription refills and renewals, results delivery,
requests for appointment scheduling and referrals, health education
information and more. The RelayHealth service makes it easy for
physicians to electronically prescribe, review clinical data and
share appropriate information with their patients or other
clinicians efficiently, improving the quality and efficiency of
care.
By offering provider connectivity to personal
health record (PHR) companies who are "direct to consumer" experts
such as Microsoft, RelayHealth will enable consumers to have
increased access to information and improved abilities to manage
their own PHR, in consultation with their local hospital and
physician providers. Read the press release. |

McKesson Provides New e-Experience with Launch of
Customer Portal |
|
As part of McKesson’s ongoing effort to enhance the
services provided to its customers, the McKesson Customer Portal™
was launched in July. The new site replaces the For Customers Web
site, improving the look and feel and providing improved ease of
navigation. Visitors will find a new registration and log-on
process.
Users will create a profile that identifies the
products they work with most often, enabling the portal to deliver
the relevant product, services and support contact information for
the products selected. The portal will be developed in phases with
more robust functionality added over time, such as single sign-on to
