From the President |
|
Happy New Year!
In my first President’s
Message, I begin with thanking Debe Gash for her leadership and
support in 2007. In 2008, I plan to build upon the strong foundation
that she set during her presidency. I must also acknowledge
the InSight 2008 Board of Directors. With their support and yours, I’m confident we will
take InSight to even higher levels this year. What better way to
start this year than to review upcoming programs.
We will
continue to work on our strategic plan through growing membership,
driving membership via the Web and strengthening our McKesson
partnership.
We work diligently to increase membership to
strengthen our education, networking and influence. We’ve done so by
bringing McKesson’s newly acquired RelayHealth, ANSOS One-Staff and
ORSOS One-Call customers to InSight. |
|
We also welcomed the
Society for Users of McKesson Medical Imaging Technology (SUMMIT) as
a special interest group. In addition, we attracted CIOs and top IT
executives to the CIO Forum. This year, Debe Gash will lead efforts
to enhance this program. Furthermore, the results from the 2007
McKesson customer surveys will be assessed this quarter and
recommended changes or validation points will be applied to
InSight’s offerings starting in 2008 to aid in membership
growth.
Our new and improved Web site was unveiled on
Monday, January 21! Like you, I look forward to using an easier
navigable site for updated discussion forums, access to the updated
document repository and much more.

1998-2008
1. Can you explain what volunteering with
(or being a member of) InSight has done for you
personally? My association with InSight has helped with
my personal and professional development in many ways. Through the
years I've had the opportunity to work with many different leaders
and witness and learn from them. By working with others I've learned
the value of different views and approaches. I also maintain contact
with several fellow volunteers via email for ongoing
consultation.
2. Can you explain how volunteering with
(or being a member of) InSight has helped your
organization? Before each conference and Board Meeting I
make two lists of topics to maximize my networking. The first list
is what current projects or problems I want to learn more about from
others, either vendors or colleagues. The second list has major
projects, successes, tips and lessons learned that I'm willing to
share with others. I work both lists throughout the meeting and
networking to get the most of my time. While at the conference I
make a list of take-aways that I follow-up with when I get home.
I've found this simple method to help me focus my activities for
optimal return for my hospital.
3. Can you provide an example of how
InSight has brought you and/or your company measurable
value? There are too many examples to count. Every year
we use the McKesson product update sessions at the conference not
just to learn about the new features, but also to update our
planning documents by identifying required predecessors and
understanding benefits for priority setting. This in turn helps us
optimize our capital budget spend on what will benefit us most and
where it fits with our resource plans. We attend SIG sessions for
each product to learn how others are using the products in their
organizations. We avoid expensive mistakes and rework by learning
from other users. It is not unusual for Foote to send 10 or more
people to the conference to be able to cover all the SIGs for our
products. From our internal IS plans we keep an eye on new products
and solutions in the Product Solution Center and talk to developers
about what we think is needed before we will be ready to invest in
additional products. From informal networking with other users we
learn wh! at works and what doesn't, saving countless hours and
avoiding frustration in leveraging the flexibility of the solutions.
Having direct input into the Strategic Enhancement Process has
resulted in additional features and functions streamlining our
workflow for years to follow. We've never taken the time to go back
and measure the actual savings. But, perhaps common example will
help describe how I think about it.
If our comments at the Series SIG in 1998 resulted
in an enhancement saving 30 minutes/day for each biller (eg $10/hr),
then our ROI would be $5 multiplied by 30 billers multiplied by 250
workdays/yr multiplied by 10 years equaling $375,000 so far from
that one idea. Multiply this concept times the number of staff that
attend and consider the compounding effect. Assuming it cost our
hospital $2,500 to send that staff member for ten years, our
investment would have been $25,000. Not a bad return on just one
idea! InSight unquestionably provides real value, whether we do the
math each time or not.
4. What excites you most about the
future of InSight? Having served on the Board for many
years and having had the opportunity to come back last year, I see
InSight is very well governed and managed. This excites me because
I'm assured that the staff at Foote will continue to have the
opportunities to share, learn and grow by volunteering with InSight
and attending the conferences to return value to Foote Health System
for years to come. |

InSight's Revamped Website |
|
The Web Committee is pleased to unveil the new look
and feel of the InSight Website. This, combined with ease-of-use
tools and functionality, is the accomplishment of a huge volunteer
effort over the past 6 months.
- Upgraded Association WebBlock Framework
that provides a robust and scalable Web technology framework
offering content management and several interactive
modules.
- Reorganized Home Page that
will improve your navigation throughout the site combined with
increased efficiencies relating to your use of the Strategic
Enhancement Process. Further, we have created Portal Pages based
on your login credentials by Member, CIO, or Registered
Non-Member, providing specific user role related content to be
delivered to your fingertips. Obviously, as the needs of the
membership grow for additional portal pages, it will be easy to
implement due to the flexibility of our new platform.
- Upgraded Discussion Forums
that will allow you to respond to emails and have your input
included in the discussion thread from your own personal inbox.
This feature functionality will also be part of your experience
when utilizing the improved Strategic Enhancement Process.
-Upgraded Document Repository that will provide for increased
ability to store relevant materials and enhanced search options to
quickly locate what you are seeking.
- Improved Strategic Enhancement Process
designed to meet the needs of the membership. Some of the
improvements include streamlined navigation combined with quick
links that will take the member to the desired function,
elimination of the dual scroll bar to remove white space, "opt in"
functionality to receive email notification when a Customer
Satisfaction Enhancement (CSE) is created and/or updated, and
improved capability to make edits through a newly designed page
that supports the members needs.
The new Website is bound to
afford a greater benefit to the InSight community. Take a look.

SUMMIT |
|
In January, InSight officially
welcomed SUMMIT as a new SIG in our community. The addition of
SUMMIT not only strengthens InSight’s numbers, but is also an
overall benefit to InSight membership.
A larger community creates a
larger network to communicate and share knowledge which benefits
both our individual organizations as well as our industry. SUMMIT
members joining InSight will be able to take advantage of full
membership benefits such as Web site access and eLearning
opportunities, as well as a special SIG track focused on SUMMIT at
the InSight 2008 Annual Conference. |
