Greetings,
As I step down from my role as InSight President, I
could not be more pleased with all that’s been accomplished this
past year with InSight. We’ve been innovative, dynamic, progressive,
and most importantly successful in all of our endeavors throughout
the year.
I can confidently say that in 2007, we not
only focused on the ‘now,’ but put emphasis on our future at every
level within this association. I attribute our successes to those
who continue supporting the vision, voice and value of
InSight.
As with any organization, a leader is only as
effective as his or her team and the community that he or she
supports.

For that, I’d like to extend my most sincere
thanks to this year’s Board of Directors, and the
volunteer committees that continue to champion, advocate and drive
this organization, including: the CIO Forum Task Force, Membership
Committee, Nominations Committee, Web site Committee, Clinical
Management Council, Infrastructure Council, International Council,
Resource Management Council and Revenue Cycle Management
Council.
Finally, it’s my pleasure to pass along the
gavel to our incoming President, Janet Stanek, Vice-President,
Support Services & CIO, Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center.

McKesson’s OR Benchmarks® Collaborative
database now contains data from more than 2.5 million surgical
cases, collected from more than 350 facilities across North America.
Launched in February 2006, the service is the healthcare industry’s
first automated national service specifically for surgery
benchmarking, enabling hospitals to use a Web-based dashboard to
measure and report their operating room (OR) performance and compare
it to similar facilities in the United States and Canada.
"When we polled our OR directors to assess how they
were measuring OR efficiency and patient safety, we discovered
variations in measurements and even how the indicators were
defined,” said Tricia Kassab, assistant vice president for clinical
quality, St. Joseph’s Health System, Orange, Calif. “We needed a
tool that enabled us to see how we were performing and that clearly
identified indicators using common definitions. The ORBC gave us
those measures."
With OR Benchmarks Collaborative Release 2.0, users
have greater flexibility to set defined benchmarks so they can
compare themselves against other subscribers with similar
characteristics. Read the press release for further
details.

In January, InSight will
welcome SUMMIT as a new SIG in our community. The addition of SUMMIT
will not only strengthen InSight’s numbers, but will be an overall
benefit to InSight membership as well.
A larger community creates a larger network to
communicate and share knowledge which will benefit both our
individual organizations as well as our industry. SUMMIT members
joining InSight will be able to take advantage of full membership
benefits such as Web site access and eLearning opportunities, as
well as a special SIG track focused on SUMMIT at the InSight 2008
Annual Conference.
Continue to watch for more details regarding
this community moving forward.
