SIG Education Chair Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The SIG Education Chair leads all education activities of the SIG and is the key contact with the vendor and Council Chairs regarding his/her assigned SIG including conference planning.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Is responsible for developing the education track for the SIG and conducting appropriate sessions at the conference.
- Assists as directed by the Director and Vice President Education. Completion of work within established deadlines.
- Initiate contact with new members through welcome letters, working in conjunction with the New Member Mentor Program.
- Attends no less than 80% of required meetings
ROLE EXPECTATIONS:
- Upholds the ethics and ideals of the corporation.
- Attends meetings of any committees for which the specific position is assigned responsibility, either as a member or as a chair. In the event that attendance is not possible, notifies the Education Council Chair of the reason for non-attendance and arranges for a replacement.
- Ensures continuity and quality content of the sessions and plans all aspects of the SIG portion of the Conference.
- Represents the SIG at the Council meetings/conference calls.
- Monitors the Discussion (non Enhancement) Forum postings to insure that appropriate information is presented to the membership, with support from the SIG leadership and McKesson liaison.
- Obtains vendor representation for SIG sessions.
- Provides information requirements to the SIG InSight Headquarters for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as appropriate.
- Facilitates communication to all SIG members via Discussion Forums.
Performs the following functions during the Conference: Chairs the SIG breakout sessions Introduces the vendor representatives in attendance at each session Ensures that schedules are adhered to and that all SIG members are represented fairly Speaker’s names and affiliations Session attendance counts Session and conference evaluations SIG leadership and affiliations for the following year
- Ensures that all required information is procured for the education sessions and is entered by the speaker.
- Attends the following functions:
Pre-conference meeting at the beginning of each conference accompanied by the SIG McKesson Liaison. New Attendee Welcome function for his/her Council at the beginning of the Conference. Conference wrap-up meeting, if applicable. The purposes of this meeting include: reporting the substance of the conference offering suggestions for improvement of subsequent conferences. Council meetings. Any specially scheduled meetings to which SIG Chairs are invited.
- Monitor the InSight general discussion forums for inappropriate content.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to commit the time required for the term of office.
- Able to attend the Annual Conference, including pre- and post-conference meetings.
- Must be an individual member, as defined in the bylaws.
- Should have management and leadership skills and, ideally, occupy a senior or departmental management position in his/her employer institution.
- Must have demonstrated an active interest in the purposes and goals of the Corporation.
- Must have the backing of his/her employer institution in writing and have access to the Internet with e-mail.
- Must be able to perform the duties of the office.
TERM OF OFFICE: This position is a two year term, to begin on January 1 of the year following the year in which he or she was elected. This position may be re-elected by the SIG. In the event that the SIG Education Chair cannot fill an entire term, the SIG Enhancement Chair may succeed to the position or another candidate may be appointed by the Education Council Chair with approval from the Director of Education.
