Tom Utley Member Achievement Award

Each year InSight presents the Tom Utley Member Achievement Award  to honor one of its members who has demonstrated outstanding service through their volunteer activities and has made significant contributions to the users of McKesson products.  This award, which is presented at the InSight Annual Meeting during the opening session, recognizes the best of our many volunteers who contribute their time and talents to make InSight one of the leading user associations in the country.

Any active individual member of InSight in good standing is eligible for the award with the exception of current officers, directors, affiliates, consultants, members of the Awards Committee and previous recipients.  The recipient will be selected by the Awards Committee, which consists of current President, immediate Past-President, two SIG chairs, the current Director of Membership, McKesson Liaison and Lisa Utley.

Tom Utley was a former CIO at Merritt-Peralta Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. In 1986, Tom met with executives of HBO & Company and suggested the formation of a user group to provide a forum for customers to share information and leverage their experiences towards product improvement. Tom, along with five other customers, began meeting and in 1987 held the first annual meeting of what became the Star Products Users Group (SPUG). Tom also served as SPUG’s first President, exerting his unique leadership style and devoting himself to excellence and innovation .  It was Tom’s dedication, loyalty and determination that formed the foundation for this grass roots effort that led ultimately to the formation of InSight in 1998.

The award recipient will receive a complimentary InSight membership for one year, free registration to the next annual conference and an engraved plaque.
