Tom
Utley was a former CIO at Merritt-Peralta Medical Center in Palo Alto,
California.
In 1986, Tom met with executives of HBO & Company and suggested the formation
of a user group to provide a forum for customers to share information and leverage
their experiences towards product improvement. Tom, along with five other customers,
began meeting and in 1987 held the first annual meeting of what became the Star
Products Users Group (SPUG). Tom also served as SPUG’s first President,
exerting his unique leadership style and devoting himself to excellence and
innovation . It was Tom’s
dedication, loyalty and determination that formed the foundation for this grass
roots effort that led ultimately to the formation of InSight in 1998.
The
award recipient will receive a complimentary InSight membership for one year,
free registration to the next annual conference and an engraved plaque.
